new year 2
January 2023 with Anselm Franke
We are happy to announce the second New Year dinner and Lecture at mimi. This time Anselm Franke will hold a lecture.
Anselm Franke has been Head of Visual Arts and Film at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) since 2013. There, he initiated and curated the exhibitions Neolithic Childhood. Art in a False Present, c. 1930 (2018, with Tom Holert), Parapolitics: Cultural Freedom and the Cold War (2017/18, with Nida Ghouse, Paz Guevara, Antonia Majaca), 2 or 3 Tigers (2017, with Hyunjin Kim), Nervous Systems (2016, Tactical Technology Collective, Stephanie Hankey, Marek Tuszynski), Ape Culture (2015, with Hila Peleg), Forensis (2014, with Forensic Architecture), The Whole Earth (with Diedrich Diederichsen) and After Year Zero (both 2013).
Reiko Kanazawa and Yuki Nishino will prepare Japanese New Year foods called Osechi and Ozoni - several dishes of which each carries a specific traditional meaning.
Celebrating recurring events of the year with particular foods is a very important part of Japanese tradition in order to differentiate these events from the everyday, and the carefully crafted dishes will incorporate regional German ingredients and products by mimi.
